We recognize how important it is for parents to take time for themselves. We also recognize how hard it is to find qualified support staff that make you feel secure and supported. At Terrace, we have a highly qualified team of respite care professionals ready to assist you! They have all received extensive training, are fully background checked, and are First Aid/CPR certified. Our respite care workers are available 7 days a week, as well as evenings and weekends by appointment.
ABA & IBI THERAPY
Our behavioural services are custom tailored to meet each individual’s needs. Terrace’s programs are offered to clients 12 months to 18 years of age. Services are offered in-centre, in-community, and in-home 5 days a week.
The Terrace team will assist your child with their integration into school and into a variety of programs in the community. Our therapists will help ease the transition into programs such as preschool, private school, daycare, camps, extra-curricular sports, and group activities. Programs are clearly outlined to meet goals using the principles of ABA. Therapists will use data collection and graphing to track progress and assist students in developing social skills, building positive relationships, recognizing personal boundaries, developing academic skills, and much more!
Some of the skills targeted within social groups include conversational skills, non-verbal communication, perspective taking, social normatives, problem solving, and some more complex relationships.
Parents are the most important influence in a child’s life. Terrace believes that parents should be an integral part of their child’s therapy. We collaborate with parents to better understand and guide their child’s development as well as to promote understanding of ABA techniques. The goal is to educate parents on how to implement behavioural programming in the home and in the community, as needed. We also help parents navigate funding and support systems in the community. This collaboration can be done in-home or in-centre at the parents’ request. Support for siblings is also available upon request.
At Terrace, we have a qualified team of Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDA) supervised by our resident Speech Language Pathologist to enhance your child’s communication. The team offers services for language delays/disorders, articulation and phonological disorders, language learning disabilities, auditory processing disorders and many more. Our CDAs offer bilingual services in French and English and are trained to work with children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or with other exceptionalities.
Our behaviour consultation services utilize the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), which uses evidence-based practices, to better understand the function of behaviours that interfere with daily living. We work with families and caregivers to develop an objective behaviour plan. This plan includes an appropriate alternative behaviour (if required), different techniques/strategies to reduce challenging behaviours, and a program that focuses on generalizing the behaviour plan to different environments, while maintaining decreased levels of the behaviour over time. We also provide coaching to staff, parents, and multi-disciplinary teams to promote consistent implementation of the behaviour plan in all environments to ensure the most effective and successful program results.
